Workshop on PED Definition

22 April 2021 15:00 – 16:30

Objectives

How should a framework of PED definitions look like?

Workshop Time Plan

15:00 – 15:15 Introduction

15:15 – 16:00 Breakout Discussions (see below links to the breakout rooms)

16:00 – 16:30 Report of Breakout Discussions and Wrap-Up

Breakout Discussion Details

  • 3 Rounds of Parallel Discussions (45 minutes)
    • Round 1: 20 minutes
    • Round 2: 15 minutes
    • Round 3: 10 minutes

  • There will be 6 breakout rooms each dedicated to a specific discussion topic. Each room will be led by a moderator. Participants will join a breakout room of their choice in each discussion round. When time is up, they will be asked to change to a different room, while the moderators stay behind. Each participant is expected to visit 3 out of 6 breakout rooms in the end.

Whiteboard

1

What PED definitions/concepts do you know? Are there any relevant definitions/concepts that you think we should take note of? (Aim: collect ideas on existing concepts at the national, European and international levels.)

Per Sieverts Nielsen

Board 1

2

What do you think are the main challenges, shortcomings or gaps in the existing definitions/concepts? (Aim: identify the main aspects to be addressed/improved in the development of the PED definition framework.)

Adriano Bisello

Board 2

3

How do you see the applications of a PED definition framework? (Aim: identify the potential applications. The potential uses will directly affect the content of the definitions e.g. qualitative vs. quantitative.)

Caroline Cheng

Board 3

4

How to account for different boundary conditions (e.g. climate, land use, built form, etc.) in the PED definition framework? (Aim: help us to develop a universal framework that can be used in different districts, cities, countries and world regions.)

Vicky Albert- Seifried

Board 4

5

How to treat mobility in the calculation of the energy balance for PEDs? Should it be included? If yes, how? If not, why? (Aim: help us to get some ideas on the treatment of mobility in the PED definition framework.)

Pekka Tuominen

Board 5

6

What do you expect to see in the framework of PED definitions? What are the crucial dimensions and components? (Aim: help us to understand what the important considerations are in the development of the PED definition framework.)

Moderators

Andrea Gabaldón Moreno, Adriano Bisello, Caroline Cheng, Francesco Reda, Per Sieverts Nielsen and Vicky Albert-Seifried.

Before the Workshop
